The most common pattern begins by contact from a woman who claims to have saw your profile online. She begins writing you, sending her photos and expressing carefully crafted emails designed to convince the man he has found his dream woman. There is only one thing keeping the two of them apart…a visa to the mans country. She will pretend she doesn’t know the exact process but of course, she asked a friend and they said for only a few hundred dollars, or a few thousand in some cases, she could fly to be with you forever!
Before you you roll your eyes and think, who could fall for this? …Think again. very intellectual men have ignored all warning signs and sent large sums of cash to women they have never met, never spoken on the phone with and have no idea if she even exists. Why? Because they were lonely, and simply thought they had found someone. It was exciting, romantic and of course everything occured by careful execution by the scammer.
The real story? There never was a girl in the scam, at least not the one int he pictures. Those images were taken from various websites and presented as a fake identity. Each letter was written in advance and rarely was any question ever answered, only continuous reassurance of undying devotion,regardless of age, race, employment, etc. There are procedures in place to report scams, but the invisibility of the crime makes prosecution very unlikely.
The end result has badly defamed true Russian Women as scammers or green card hunters. The headlines about such crimes have led millions to to believe an untrue and negative stereotype.
